ACCOUNTS PAYABLE ACCOUNTANT

General Statement of Duties:​​​​ Position is responsible for maintaining and processing the accounting tasks associated with payable accounts and transactions.  This includes processing invoices and vouchers using the financial accounting software and the document retention system, working with administrative and program staff to ensure accurate and timely processing of all invoices and processing weekly payments.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required or 1-3 years of Accounting experience.  Knowledge of applicable Federal and State regulations.  Understanding of low-income and elderly populations.  Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting software.

BENEFITS COUNSELOR

General Statement of Duties:​​​​ Actively participates as a member of the 211 Information and Assistance team; specializes in Medicare, Medicaid and other insurance benefits and provides education, counseling, assistance and advocacy.  Attend outreach functions throughout Northwest Indiana Community Action Corporation's six county service areas.  Completes special projects as assigned by the Benefits Counseling Supervisor and is responsible for keeping complete and accurate documentation.

Qualifications: Candidates who are fluent in English and Spanish are encouraged to apply.  Candidates must have a high school diploma. Bachelor’s Degree preferred. CALL SPECIALIST (PART-TIME)

General Statement of Duties: Actively participates as a member of the 211 Information and Assistance team and is expected to be an active participant in the agency’s mission, vision, values, and by delivering quality, professional information and assistance, referral and advocacy services to inquirers. He/she is a front line representative to the public and is responsible for taking incoming calls, performing intake screenings, research, follow-up, advocacy and surveys. He/she shall work to ensure consistent, quality services to the agency’s constituents, demonstrate enthusiasm, initiative, and flexibility in assignments and maintain positive working relationships with all agency personnel. This individual will work in a multi-functional, fast-paced setting while being responsible for daily phone assessments and keeping complete and accurate documentation.

DATA TECHNICIAN

General Statement of Duties: Reporting to the Director of Planning and Business Development, the Data Technician is responsible for assisting in all data management functions needed for grant reporting, quality improvement and outcomes management.  The Data Technician will process agency and program data in compliance with agency procedures and program regulations.  This includes entering data into CAPTAIN and other agency databases, working with agency management to ensure accurate and timely data entry and reporting, monitoring data entry processes, and assisting with data analysis and reporting procedures.

The Data Technician is expected to be an active participant in the agency's mission, vision, and values. He/she shall work to ensure that consistent, reliable, responsive, and quality services are provided to the agency's constituents, partners, and customers.  He/she will demonstrate enthusiasm, initiative, and flexibility and will maintain positive working relationships with all agency personnel.

Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.  At minimum one-year experience in data entry or database related work in a professional environment. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.  Basic knowledge of clerical processes (filing, data entry, telephone etiquette, etc.)  Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills.

ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EAP Technician)

General Statement of Duties:​​​​ The EAP Technician is responsible for quality reviews on EAP application intake for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). In addition, the Intake Worker may be responsible to provide outreach to low-income residents of the service area. The EAP tech works closely with the EAP Supervisor and EAP intake providers providing program guidance.

The EAP Technician is expected to be an active participant in the agency's mission, vision, and values. He/she shall work to ensure consistent, quality services to the agency's constituents demonstrate enthusiasm, initiative, and flexibility in assignments and maintain positive working relationships and communication with all agency personnel, will be inclusive, communicative and will establish himself/herself as a primary resource to EAP intake providers.

Qualifications:
• A high school diploma or equivalent;
• Language Skills; Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English. Fluency in Spanish is preferred
• Basic Bookkeeping and Math; adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing in all units of measure, using whole numbers
• 2 years' experience in basic accounting field preferred, invoice processing or related tasks
• Reasoning Ability; Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations with set guidelines. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

FA​MILY DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST

​​​General Statement of Duties:​​​​ The Family Development Specialist is responsible for providing coaching and case management services, assessment, goal planning and setting, and client empowerment, following Family Support principles, to low-income, elderly, and disabled individuals who need assistance in becoming financially stable and self-sufficient, especially those clients who participate in the agency's Energy Assistance Program. Major functions of the position include direct service to a client caseload, providing financial literacy education, personal coaching, energy conservation education client assessments using a standard evaluation tool identified as a Matrix Tool.

Qualifications: BA in Social Work or similar human-services related field preferred or work experience in related field. One-year experience in applying case management and asset building technique practices with individuals and families. Certification of Family Development Specialist through successful completion of coursework and certification within 12 months of hire date. Excellent writing skills and effective communication skills with customers, co-workers and the public. Understanding of low-income and elderly populations.

LTC OMBUDSMAN

General Statement of Duties: Responsible for providing persons residing in long term care facilities and their representatives with information about their rights and available resources such as community services available and laws, regulations and standards that govern long term care facilities.  They will also be charged to empower persons residing in long term care facilities and their representatives to advocate for their rights and they will advocate for residents who cannot be empowered. They will conduct visits with residents living in long term care facilities on an on-going basis to address complaints and to assure that residents receive fair treatment

Qualifications: Must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration or related field or 4 years' experience in long term care.  Must be free of conflicts as defined by the LTC Ombudsman authorization. Effective communication skills with staff, clients, service providers and general public and have an understanding of low-income client populations are also a must. Reliable transportation is a requirement as well.

BREASTFEEDING ASSISTANT COORDINATOR (Women, Infants and Children) Part-time

General Statement of Duties: The WIC Breastfeeding Assistant Coordinator will oversee the inventory of pumps and supplies in all WIC Clinics, and Administration office.  He/she will provide promotion of breastfeeding in the community, amongst participants and with the WIC Program staff.   The WIC Breastfeeding Assistant Coordinator will share information about the WIC Program and its benefits to participants, and assist with WIC Program romotion/education and outreach for the purpose of maintaining and increasing participant utilization

Qualifications:Candidate should be a qualified Nutritionist, Registered Dietitian, or Licensed Registered Nurse. A Bachelor’s Degree in Family and Consumer Sciences (Home Economics) with an emphasis in Nutrition defined as a minimum of 9 hours in nutrition which include, 3 hours of introductory nutrition, 3 hours in life cycle nutrition, 3 hours in advance nutrition. Candidate should have experience in BF promotion, and have at least 1 year of counseling BF women. BF credentials are a plus (CLS or IBCLC). Candidate should also possess excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills. Be a self-starter, able to work independently, service oriented with attention to detail. HOSPITAL CPA (Women, Infants and Children) Part-time

General Statement of Duties:WIC Hospital CPA performs certification process in various hospitals throughout NWI. Hospital CPA will provide In-services to hospital staff members about breastfeeding, formula, and general WIC information. Hospital CPA will provide outreach to hospital staff members, potential participants, and other community partners. Positively promotes breastfeeding to all WIC participants and staff. Ensures all State policies and procedures are followed and met.

IT TECHNICIAN (Part-time)

General Statement of Duties:Skilled to perform technical hardware repairs, upgrades and maintenance of computer workstations, printers, notebooks, peripherals and be able to install/troubleshoot/update software applications.  Will need to learn other applications that are used throughout the organization.  Will need to answer helpdesk calls from users and resolve service tickets in a helpdesk environment

CASE MANAGER (Lake County)

General Statement of Duties: Position is responsible for face to face assessment of client needs and resources, establishing services to meet the individual's critical and non-critical needs through the formalizing of supports and authorizing paid services when needed.  The Case Manager provides case management services, assessment, care planning and client empowerment to low income, elderly, and disabled individuals to support making educated decisions regarding their long-term care planning and in remaining independent within their homes and community.   

Qualifications: Registered nurse with one year’s experience in human services; or Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, Nursing, Gerontology or Health & Human Services; or Bachelor’s degree in any field with a minimum of two year’s full-time, direct service experience with the elderly or disabled (this experience includes assessment, care plan development, and monitoring); or Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience; understanding of the case management process and low-income, elderly populations; able to coordinate/communicate effectively with customers, service providers, staff and general public; ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks; computer skills; Microsoft Word data entry skills required. BREASTFEEDING PEER COUNSELOR

General Statement of Duties:The primary function of the WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor is to promote breastfeeding within the community and the clinic in conjunction with outreach activities of the WIC Program. The Peer Counselor recruits and counsels WIC prenatal and nursing mothers as well as provides breastfeeding support and education for new mothers.

Qualifications: Candidate should be a current or previous breastfeeding mother with a minimum of 6 months of breastfeeding experience. Willing to successfully complete WIC Peer Counselor training. COMPETENT PROFESSIONAL AUTHORITY (WIC CPA)
Part-Time (Hammond, East Chicago) Women, Infants and Children


General Statement of Duties: Assists with outreach and recruitment of program participants as well as the promotion of the WIC program. CPA provides administrative/supervisory support to all WIC staff within their clinics and carries out NWICA objectives for the program. Assist the WIC Clinical Assistants with the responsibilities of checking in clients, making appointments, keeping the client database updated and any other integral part of providing excellent customer service to WIC participants. As required, perform health measurements on all participants and accurately assess nutrition risk. Provides participant centered nutrition counseling and referral services for WIC participants. Positively promotes breastfeeding to all WIC participants, educate through facilitation of breastfeeding classes while ensuring breastfeeding initiation and duration.

Qualifications: Candidate should be a qualified Nutritionist, Licensed Registered Nurse or Dietitian.
