For forty-two years, Weatherization has been working for low-income families by saving energy and expendable income making the home safer, healthier, more efficient and affordable. On Friday, October 26, 2018 we invite you to come to see exactly how 'Weatherization Works' at our Save on Heat & Trunk or Treat event in the back parking lot of our administrative offices at 5240 Fountain Drive. We'll have fun celebrating the Day during this family friendly event while learning about conserving energy and how to apply for weatherization.

What is Weatherization?

The US Department of Energy's (DOE) Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) was created in 1976 to assist low-income families who lacked resources to invest in energy efficiency. Borne out of the oil crisis in the 1970s, WAP has become the nation's largest whole-house home energy upgrade program. The Program operates in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Native American tribes, and US Territories. Funds are used to improve the energy efficency by using the most advanced technologies and testing protocols available in the housing industry.

NWICA serves Lake County, IN as the Weatherization Service Provider and contracts with professionally trained Weatherization crews. Crews use computerized energy
audits and advanced diagnostic equipment to determine the most cost effective measures appropriate for each home. Typical measures may include: installing insulation; sealing ducts; tuning and repairing heating and cooling systems; mitigating air infiltration; and reducing electric base load consumption.
