Energy Assistance Program to Open 2018-2019 Heating Season

Crown Point, IN – On November 1, 2018, Northwest Indiana Community Action will once again open its Energy Assistance Program for Lake, Porter, Jasper and Newton Counties.

Program Eligibility Requirements:
-Social Security Cards for each household member 1year & older
-Individuals that do not have SSN but have eligible household members will be reviewed for assistance

Proof of Income Necessary for Prior 12 Months:
-Annual award letters from Social Security Administration, VA, TANF, Pension, etc.
-For EARNED INCOME applicants a copy of your last pay stub from 2107 and most recent paystub and/or '17 W2s
-Work history for members: Need to sign a workone release form
-Household members currently working
-Household members 18 or older with NO INCOME (NON-STUDENTS)

For High School/College Students 18 or older the following is required
-College Students - schedule showing full time status (12 credit hours), and declared as a dependent on the household's most recent income tax form
-High School Students – Proof of enrollment printed on High School Letterhead

Current (30 days) Utility Bill / Disconnection Notice
-Bill must be in a household member’s name

Applicants that are Renters
-Lease or Landlord Affidavit form required and can be found at website: http://www.nwi-ca.org/families/utility.html

Applicants that are Homeowners
-Proof of Ownership such as property tax statement, mortgage statement, deed or title
statement
